Getting a good night sleep is important for many reasons, including supporting your energy level. If you're getting a good night sleep, and still experience fatigue, you should see your doctor to rule out more serious conditions like thyroid disease, hormonal imbalances, and anemia. If you are in good health, there may some simple things you can do to improve your energy,
Healthy Diet
Eating too many carbohydrates and sugar can cause your blood sugar levels to fluctuate. A blood sugar crash after your body digests the carbohydrates and sugar can lead to fatigue. The same thing can happen with too much caffeine over a short period of time. You'll have plenty of energy until the caffeine is out of your system and then you may crash. Eating a diet rich in a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables can help you feel lighter and more energetic.
Adaptogens
Adaptogenic herbs help your body to balance stress and other imbalances. They have been used by ancient cultures for hundreds of years. They began being studied by studied by scientists who were looking to support the energy levels of pilots during World War II. Nowadays, there are many health practitioners and studies that show they can be very helpful for correcting imbalances. One of the most widely used is ashwagandha. It has been used to decrease stress, improve energy levels, and improve brain function. Holy basil, or tulsi ,is another widely used adaptogen. It can be taken as a supplement or as a tea. Here is a post that talks about other adaptogenic herbs that can help balance stress in the body.
Movement
If you are living a sedentary lifestyle and are not active, you may be able to improve your energy levels with movement. Even 20 minutes a day, 3 days a week can make a difference. If you have an office job, trying using a standing desk or an exercise ball as a chair. If that's not possible, take a walk or do some mild exercise once an hour. Stretching is another way to add movement and it can be relaxing or energizing.
Depression
Depression can be an energy zapper. See your doctor for serious and long term depression. But if you are experiencing a mild and short period of depression, there are things you can do to feel better and have more energy. One of the easiest ways to alleviate mild depression is through diet. This is because diet affects the neurotransmitters in the brain. A diet rich in healthy proteins and fats and lots of fruits and vegetables can help reset the brain. Smelling uplifting food grade essential oils can help too. Citrus, eucalyptus, and wintergreen are some good examples of essential oils that can improve your energy.
Stay Hydrated
When you are dehydrated, your body can't deliver the proper amount of oxygen and nutrients to your brain, muscles and organs. This can make you feel sluggish and fatigued. It's important to improve your hydration with things that are not sweet because this can cause more fatigue after your body processes the sugar. Diet soda is not a good option because it contains chemicals and dyes that can interfere with healthy cell signaling. Drinking pure filtered water is better. If you don't like plain water, consider adding some lemon or cucumber slices to your water. Or drink a herbal tea made with pure filtered water.
