Hydrating Strategies
Your body needs enough fluids to function properly.  Staying hydrated is one of the simplest things you can do for your overall well being, yet many people are chronically dehydrated.  Proper hydration can give you more energy, reduce soreness, and allows your body to eliminate the toxins that we are all exposed to every day.  Soups, broths and smoothies can all help keep you hydrated.  But are some hydration strategies that can help you when you're on the go, even if you don't like plain water.

Lemon Water with Sea Salt

Starting your day with a large glass of lemon water and a pinch of sea salt will set your day up for success.   The sea salt will provide your body with important minerals that it needs.  It turns that simple glass of lemon water into a hydrating electrolyte drink.  The lemon juice will satisfy your daily vitamin C requirement and help balance your body's pH.  It is also supportive for your liver and helps your body move toxins out.  Vitamin C is also an excellent antioxidant which can help reduce inflammation in your body.  You can also use lemon juice in a smaller glass of water 30 min prior to eating to help with digestion.  It is best to use purified water when possible.

Coconut Water

Drinking organic coconut water is not only hydrating, but it contains amino acids, vitamins and minerals that your body needs.  It is being heavily studied for it's ability to support healthy blood sugar levels and the cardiovascular system.  It also naturally contains electrolytes which help with nerve signaling and more. It can be a great substitute for a traditional sports drink.

Sparkling Water

Natural sparkling water is another great source of minerals that will help meet your body's electrolyte needs.  If the taste is a little bland for you, you can add your favorite organic fruit or cucumber slices.   Another benefit of natural sparkling water is that it may help you feel full and you may be less tempted to eat more than your body needs.

Hydrating Foods

You can also get hydration from fruit and vegetables that naturally contain a lot of water.  Healthy hydrating fruits include grapefruit, watermelon, pineapple and oranges.  If you're watching your blood sugar levels, you could consume these as a desert after a low carb meal.  Hydrating vegetables include celery, cucumber and Bok choy.

Organic Herbal Teas

Drinking organic herbal teas is a great way to stay hydrated and get the health benefits of the herbs.  You can drink chamomile tea to help you relax and destress.  Peppermint tea may settle your stomach and is uplifting.  Dandelion and milk thistle teas support your liver.  There are so many options for single teas and blends that target body systems.   You can add some lemon juice and a pinch of natural sea salt to turn your tea into an electrolyte drink.

Did this help you?  If so, I'd greatly appreciate it if you commented and/or share it on social media.
