Natural Strategies for Female Hair Loss
Female hair loss can happen for many reasons. While it's normal to lose about 100 strands of hair a day, losing more than that can be a signal of a health imbalance.  Some of the most common reasons for hair loss are stress, hormone imbalance, thyroid health, nutrient deficiencies, and inflammation.  You can work with a functional medicine doctor, who can run tests to help determine the reason for your hair loss.  Or you can try some of theese natural strategies for female hair loss.

Stress

Occassional stress won't cause you to lose more hair than normal.  But long term, sustained physical and/or emotional stress, can lead to more hair loss.  If you are experiencing chronic stress, you may also not be getting good sleep.  Finding time to practice relaxation techniques and developing a calming bed time routine can go a long way in helping you maintain good health, and help prevent hair loss.

Hormone Imbalance

If you are going through perimenopause, your hormones are changing.  And this can lead to a hormone imbalance that can result in hair loss.  The most common imbalance is estrogen dominance.  There are lots of natural supplements that contain herbs and other ingredients that can help your body adjust.  It's always best to use the highest quality supplements, like those you can find at a chiropractor, or natural medicine doctor's office.

Thyroid Health

Both too much, or too little, thyroid hormone can cause hair loss and many other symptoms.  If you are healthy and want to support your throid health, make sure you are getting healthy levels of selenium and iodine.  Kelp and seaweed are rich in iodine, and eating too much could lead to hair loss.  Ashwagandha is an herbal adapatogen that may help support your thyroid and your body's response to stress.  If you have other health issues, you will want to see a doctor who can have your thyroid levels tested and provide specialized care.

Nutrient Deficiencies

Nutrient deficiencies alone can lead to hair loss.  The B vitamins are particularly important to your blood flow and hair folicles.  In particular, biotin, has been studied for it's role in hair and nail health.  Foods rich in B vitamins include  meat, seafood, poultry, eggs, nuts, and leafy greens.  Other vitamins and minerals that are important for healthy hair growth are vitamins A, C, and E.  The important minerals are copper, iron, and zinc.

Inflammation

Inflammation is one of the root causes of many health conditions, including hair loss.  Reducing inflammation could mean eating a healtheir diet and avoiding foods you are allergic/sensitive to.  Stress and poor sleep can also cause inflammation.  Exposure to environmental and chemical toxins can be another cause of inflammation.  In general, your hair, skin, and nails are great indicators of your overall wellness.  If you are experiencing hair loss, it is your body telling you that something is not quite right.
