You may suffer from sinus congestion due to allergies, mold, illness, or other reasons. Your sinuses are mucous lined airways within the bones of your face and skull. The mucous acts as a first line of defense in filtering out unwanted airborne particles. If your sinuses become blocked, it can become painful due to the pressure from the trapped fluid. If your sinuses stay blocked for too long, you may end up with a sinus infection. Fortunately, there are some simple things you can try to get relief and even avoid sinus congestion altogether.
Immune System Support
Your sinuses are an important part of your immune system. So taking supplements that contain key vitamins and minerals can make sure your body has the building blocks it needs. Some of the key vitamins and minerals are vitamin C, vitamin D/K3, zinc, and magenesium. You can take these daily to support your immune health. If you are feeling health challenged, you can increase the amount you consume. Makre sure you take high quality supplements so that you avoid artificial colors and ingredients that your body can't utilize.
Natural Sinus Sprays
Your sinuses have a delicate balance of healthy bacteria known as a microbiome. Because your sinuses are designed to trap unwanted particles, it can be helpful to help flush out those particles. You don't want to use harsh ingredients that can disrupt the balance of healthy bacteria. So find a natural option that can support the microbiome in your sinuses. Some healthy options are natural carbon based ingredients, collodial or nano silver, and bee products such as bee propolis and bee pollen.
Essential Oils
Peppermint and eucalyptus essential oils are the two most common essential oils used to support the respiratory system. You can use them, and other food grade essential oils, in many different ways. You can diffuse them, use them in the shower, or dab them under your nose. A drop of food grade peppermint oil can also be added to your cool food or drink for refreshing minty respiratory support.
Accupressure
There is a simple accupressure technique that you can try that may help relieve sinus pressure. Press your tongue against the top of your mouth and press your finger between your eyebrows. Hold this for 20 t0 30 seconds. There are 8 other points that you can also try.
Air Purifier
Using a high quality air purifier may help remove the particles in the air that are irritating your sinuses. An air purifier won't help though, if you have a mold issue in your living space. You'll need to hire an expert to help you get rid of mold. You can also minimize your exposure to artificial fragrances and chemicals in your home and personal care products, to see if that helps. Adding live plants to your living space can also improve your indoor air quality.
