Your body is designed to be able to remove and eliminate harmful substances. But because we are all exposed to more toxins than in the history of mankind, you may want to support your body in it's ability to eliminate toxins. The first step is to eliminate toxins in your personal and household products. And of course, it's always best to eat organic and drink pure filtered water when possible. Here are some other things you can add to your daily routine for detoxing.
Epsom Salt Bath
Epsom salts have the unique ability to help draw toxins out of your body and into the water. Even if you can't take a full bath, soaking your feet can help remove toxins. Plus your body will absorb the magnesium from the salts and most of us are deficient in this important mineral. Adding and Epsom salt bath to your daily or weekly routine, will leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed.
Sauna
Warming your body up so that it sweats is an ancient practice for cleansing. Native Americans used sweat lodges to help cleanse themselves spiritually and physically. Nowadays, most people can easily take a heated wet or dry sauna. In addition, infrared saunas are available as home units that range in price from a couple hundred to a couple thousand dollars . If you don't have access to a sauna as often as you'd like, some moderate exercise can allow your body to sweat and release toxins.
Lemon Water
Starting your day with a glass of purified water and two teaspoons of lemon juice is a simple way to support your liver. This is important because all of the blood that leaves your intestines passes through your liver. In addition, your liver performs around 500 functions. So if your liver is not healthy, your health can decline. You can add the lemon juice to a healthy tea and have it hot or cold. It's a great way to stay hydrated and support your liver at the same time.
Prebiotics
Keeping your gut healthy is an important part of keeping your detoxification pathways functioning optimally. Prebiotics feed the probiotics in your digestive tract. So make sure you eat a good variety of foods that contain both probiotics and prebiotics. Foods containing probiotics include fermented kimchi, kombucha, unsweetened organic yogurt and sour cream. Good food sources of prebiotics are tomatoes, artichokes, onions, garlic, bananas, asparagus, jicama, and oats
Oral Health
Your mouth is the first line of defense when it comes to breaking down toxins and harmful substances. Like your gut, your mouth needs to have a healthy balance of bacteria. Brushing your teeth at least twice a day and flossing helps keep harmful bacteria from taking over. If you have sweets or a sugary drink, rinse your mouth out with water. Staying hydrated is also important for your oral health because it supports the creation of saliva. Your body uses saliva to wash away food and neutralize the pH in your mouth.
