Importance of a Healthy Stomach Acid Level
It is important to have enough stomach acid so that you can break down the food you eat so that your body gets the nutrition it needs.  Stomach acid also kills harmful bacteria and prevents microbial overgrowth.  Heartburn can happen if your stomach acid is either too low or too high.  If you feel bloated after eating and it takes a long time to digest a meal, than your stomach acid level is likely too low.  If your stomach acid level is to low long enough, it can lead to inflammation and more serious health issues.  Here are some things you can do to maintain a healthy stomach acid level.

Ginger

Consuming ginger, in the form of a tea, or as a spice in your food, will help increase your digestitive juices.  It has many other health benefits as well.  It is an anti-inflammatory and is loaded with antioxidants.  It can also be useful for reducing nausea.

Avoid Lots of Liquid at Meal Time

Staying well hydrated is especially important if you don't have a healthy stomach acid level.  If your stomach acid is too low, it will help move undigested food through your digestive tract.  The key is to not have a lot of liquid closer than 30 minutes before and after meals.  This allows your digestive juices to break down the meal.  If you need to take a medication, or a supplement, with a meal, use as little liquid as possible.

Eat Protein First

Protein is one of the foods that is hardest for your body to digest.  If you eat it first, your stomach will start producing the digestive juices to break it down.  This means that it may not be a good idea to have a salad before protein.  Adding your protein to the salad will make it easier for your body to digest the protein.

Lemon

Adding lemon to your food will help you break down the food.  You'll notice the difference in your digestion and your body will get more nutrition from the food.

Eat When You Are Relaxed

Your body produces digestive juices when you are relaxed.  If you are anxious, or on the go, it will be much more difficult for you to effectively digest your food.  Making sure you are relaxed before eating a meal, is a great way to get a healthy stomach acid level.
