As you age, your skin will change. And most likely, you will develop wrinkles. Your skin will become thinner, dryer, and less elastic over time. Gravity plays a role in wrinkles, and so does repetitive facial expressions. That's where the term "laugh lines" come from. Other repetitive expressions inlcude frowning, squinting, and wrinkling your forehead. Even though wrinkles are inevitable, there are some things you can do to minimize facial wrinkles.
Diet
Eating a healthy diet full of anti-inflammatory foods affects your whole body, including your skin. Everyone should avoid trans fats, fried foods, soft drinks, and commercial grade vegetable oils. They can all cause your skin to age faster and they all make your kidneys and liver work hard to eliminate them. You should also avoid foods that you are allergic to, because they will cause inflammation. Some common allergens are wheat, dairy, corn, and soy. In addition, most people don't do well with lots of sugar because of how it affects your blood sugar level. And unbalanced blood sugar levels can cause inflammation, which can impact your skin.
Reduce Stress and Improve Sleep
Being under physical and emotional stress for a long period of time can affect every aspect of your health. The same is true for not getting enough sleep. Your body reapairs and restores itself as you sleep. Your brain is also cleansed and restored during deep sleep. You probably have seen someone go through a long period of stress and noticed that it aged them. While you will experience stressful situations in life, you can reduce it's impact by resetting your body as soon as possible. For some, meditation or yoga can help. For others, it can be engaging in a favorite hobby or just taking time to relax.
Skin Care
Cleansing and moisturizing your face with clean and non-toxic ingredients, can help minimize facial wrinkles. It may be tempting to use chemicals because of the convincing product claims. But it will force your kidneys and liver to work overtime to remove them from your body. In the meantime, they can cause inflammation. There are more and more clean products available that can nurture your skin without causing any damage. You can look up some of the highest rated products on the Environmental Working Group website.
Stay Hydrated
You can help moisturize your skin from the inside out, by staying hydrated. The best way to stay hydrated is by drinking pure filtered water. You can add your favorite fruit to your water if you don't like plain water. You can also help your body stay hydrated by eating water rich foods like cucumbers, watermelon, oatmeal, and chia pudding. Staying hydrated will also help your kidneys and liver remove toxins from your body, whiich can reduce inflammation and be benefical to your skin.
Collagen and Vitamin C
Your body produces less collagen as you age and it is one of the building blocks of youthful looking skin. There are five types of collagen that can benefit your skin, nails, bones, and joints. While type 1 marine collagen has been studied to support skin health, you may benefit in other ways from the other four types of collagen. Vitamin C can help support your body in producing it's own collagen. In addition to supporting collagen production, it is a powerful antioxidant and will support your immune function. Your body uses vitamin C throughout the day, so you may want to take it several times throughout the day, instead of just once. It is water soluble, so your body will get rid of what it doesn't need.
