Natural Cold Remedies
The common cold is a viral infection of the nose and upper respiratory tract.  While there are lots of over the counter medicines that can help relieve symptons, you might want to try some natural cold remedies first.  The downside to the over counter medicines is that they contain ingredients that can cause unpleasant side effects like drowsiness or upset stomach.

Elderberry

Elderberry has many health benefits and has been used for thousands of years.  It comes from the elder tree.  There are around 30 different types of elder plants and trees, but the most commonly used elderberry comes from trees in Europe.  Elderberries are full of vitamins and antioxidants.  You can take it routinely as part of a healthy lifestyle, or when you want to support your immune system.  It comes in many different forms including syrups, teas, lozenges, and in pill form.

Ginger

Ginger has also been used to support health for thousands of years.  The main active compound in it is gingerol.  It has been studied for it's anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.  You can add fresh ginger to your food and drinks, or take it in the form of a supplement.  If your cold symptoms are severe, then it would be best to take it as a supplement so that you easily get more of it.  Ginger can also be helpful to treat some forms of nausea, balancing blood sugar, and maintaining a healthy weight.

Turmeric

Curcumin is the active ingrediet in turmeric and has become wildly popular due to it's well known anti-inflammatory properties.  It has been extensively studied and has been found to support brain and heart health.  It is more bio-available to you when combined with black pepper.  It is fat soluble which means you need to take it with some fat for it to be absorbed by your body.   It is available as a root, like ginger, and can be found in many supplements and powders.  It can be part of your daily health routine or as one of your natural cold remedies.

Honey

Raw unprocessed honey is naturally antimicrobial and inhibits the growth of fungi and viruses.  It is also a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.  In addition, it contains important vitamins, minerals and amino acids.  Honey has been studied for it's ability to support burn healing, respiratory and cardiovascular health, digestive tract issues, and improving mood.  You can add honey to your diet in warm drinks or as a natural sweetener in the foods you eat.

Garlic

The allicin in garlic has been studied for it's ability to kill human intestinal bacteria and viruses.  Allicin comes from slicing, crushing or chopping raw garlic.  Garlic has been used medicinally for thousands of years by many cultures.  Consuming garlic as part of your diet can help support many aspects of your health, including your cardiovascular system and brain health.  You can take it as a supplement when you want to support your immunity or as one of your natural cold remedies.

Did this help you?  If so, I'd greatly appreciate it if you commented and/or share it on social media.
