Drinks to Detox Your Body
Feeling bloated and sluggish can be a sign that your body is overloaded with toxins.  Every day you are exposed to toxins no matter how hard you may try to avoid them.  They are in the air, food, and water you drink.  The good news is that there are foods you can use to stimulate your body's detox pathways every day.  It is important for your health to not allow toxins to build-up in your body.  Some of the foods not only help detox you, but they can help reduce inflammation and boost your metabolism.  There any many great fruits and vegetables that can help you detox.  These are some of the most common that can used in drinks to detox your body and stay healthy and hydrated.

Citrus Fruits

Grapefruit, lemon and lime can all help you rid your body of toxins.  They also contain important nutrients such as vitamin C which is known as ascorbic acid.  You can add lemon and/or lime juice to your water for a simple healthy detox drink.  These fruits also contain pectin which is a type of fiber that can help you feel full longer.  There have been some studies that show that grapefruit helps with weight loss and can speed up your metabolism.

Cucumber

You may not think of cucumber as being a particularly healthy food, but it contains antioxidants and nutrients that slow aging and reduce inflammation.  It also acts as a diuretic which helps to cleanse the liver and flush out toxins.   Cucumber is actually a fruit that can also help with weight loss because it is so low in calories.  Some studies have shown that it may be helpful in balancing blood sugar as well.  You can eat them straight or add them to salads, sandwiches, and water.  Adding cucumber to water has the added benefit of helping you stay hydrated and feel full.

Mint

Mint is a surprising nutritional powerhouse.  It is loaded with antioxidants and speeds up digestion which helps with detoxifying the body.  Mint is a generic term for different species of plants including peppermint, spearmint, and many other types of mint.  It has long been used to soothe digestion and nausea, and to support oral health.   Try drinking peppermint tea or adding mint leaves to any healthy drink you consume.

Green Tea

Green tea is full of antioxidants and plant polyphenols that help to detoxify the body and reduce damage from free radicals.  It is also thought to stimulate your metabolism which can help with healthy weight loss goals.  Green tea directly supports the liver by increasing enzyme activity that drives detoxification.  Try combining adding the other detox foods mention here to a hot or cold cup of green tea for a super detox drink.

Ginger

Ginger is known to aid digestion and warm the body.  It also helps to break down toxins that are stored in your body.  It can easily be added to any drink or food you are consuming.  It is closely related to turmeric and like turmeric, it's the root that is eaten.  The unique fragrance and flavor of ginger come from its natural oils, the most important of which is gingerol.  Ginger has been studied for it's ability to aid weight loss, balance blood sugar, relieve pain, and more.  You can easily add it to any food or drink you consume.  You can also take it in capsule form.
